What is itsme?

Itsme is an identity app originally developed in Belgium through a collaboration between banks and telecom companies. The app provides a secure and simple way to prove your identity online. You do this by linking your ID once. After that, you can log in to participating companies, governments and digital services with just one tap.

From mid‑2026, the app will also be available in the Netherlands as an alternative to iDIN. Eventually, itsme will fully replace iDIN in 2028. You will no longer need your banking details for online identification; itsme works with a one‑time ID verification and a personal secret code.

How does itsme work?

You download the app, scan your ID and choose a secret code. After that, you can quickly and securely log in, confirm payments and sign documents via your smartphone. You no longer need to remember dozens of passwords and your data is stored encrypted. Every action you perform must be approved with your secret code.

Is itsme safe?

The app uses multi‑factor authentication (MFA). You need both your phone and your secret code to gain access. Your personal data cannot be accessed without your unique code — not even by itsme itself. The data is stored in European datacenters (GDPR compliant).

Itsme is for anyone who wants to confirm their identity online in a safe and simple way. In Belgium, the app is already used for access to government services, banks, telecom companies, insurers and many other platforms.
