1. Your company name as a domain name?
   Your own company name or family name as a domain name inspires trust and honesty, but often says little about what you do as a company. It is better to choose a combination of your company name + a description of what you do.
2. Is it smart to choose a general term as a domain name?
   You can also choose a domain name that specifically states what you do, for example mobiel.nl if you want to sell mobile phones. Potential customers can easily remember the name; the disadvantage is that you cannot also sell tablets. You would be better off choosing mobieleapparaten.nl. The point is that you fulfill the visitor's expectation.
3. Does your domain name have to be unique?
   A domain name is always unique. Make sure the name you choose is not too similar to that of your competitor; this can cause confusion. It can also be a strategy to do exactly this, but I would advise against it.
4. A long or short domain name?
   The point is that the domain name is easy to remember. A short domain name is often easier to remember than a long one. Choose a name that is easy to spell and consider the pronunciation. Also find a name that cannot be written in multiple ways, so that there is no doubt for visitors about the spelling of the name.
5. Should your domain name be singular or plural?
   Domainname.nl or domainnames.nl? If both are available, I would register both and link both to the webshop. Should the visitor be in doubt, they will still end up on your website and a competitor cannot make off with your name.
6. Dashes and numbers in the domain name?
   The chance of spelling errors increases when you use dashes or numbers. Try to avoid this as much as possible. Visitors forget that there is a dash in the domain name or no longer know where the dash belongs, so they may just end up on another website. Sometimes letters are replaced by numbers, domainname4you.nl. Don't do this; people find it hard to remember. Dashes and numbers do not come across as very professional.
7. How important is your domain name for SEO?
   A good URL promotes visibility in search engines. Since the domain name is the beginning of the URL, it is smart to incorporate a keyword into your domain name. A combination of keywords is also possible, or a combination of a keyword and your (brand) name. Incidentally, the domain name is not all-determining for findability. Search engines mainly look at the content of the website, which must match the visitor's expectations.
8. Which extension should you choose?
   There are many types of domain name extensions. Which one fits your webshop best? You can choose a domain name with an extension aimed at a country or an international target.
   
   .nl
   If you are going to create a Dutch webshop, a .nl domain name is the best choice.
   
   .com .org .net
   If you (also) want an international website, try to register the .com as well. If this is taken, you can also consider a .org or a .net.
   
   .eu
   If the target group is in Europe and you have an English-language website, choose a .eu extension.
   
   .nu
   This extension is often used when the .nl is no longer available and you want to add a "fun" factor. ikwileenwebshop.nu ikzoekeendomeinnaam.nu waarbenje.nu
   
   .shop
   A new extension that immediately indicates it is a webshop. Clear for visitors.
   
   The best thing is to claim the .nl, the .com, and the .eu!

Choosing a good domain name has a positive influence on your marketing and added value for the findability of your webshop. If you have found a good name, register it quickly before someone with the same idea makes off with it.
