How do you create a good meta description?

Make sure your message comes across clearly in the piece of text; an appealing, catchy text ensures that people click more often. You must therefore indicate why the visitor should look at the page. You must pique their curiosity, convince them, and prompt them to action. It is actually a mini advertisement.
 

Unique

Each page must have a unique meta description that relates to the content of that specific page. The visitor then directly reaches the correct page within the website after a search.
 

Length

The length of the meta description should be between 140 characters and 160 characters. It is not possible to say exactly how many characters you should use. The length is determined in pixels; letters W and M are wider than a letter i, for example. You are usually safe with 156 characters (including spaces).

Make sure there are no more, because then Google has to cut off the text and that doesn't look good. This also has a negative effect on the number of people who click through to your page.

Why is the meta description so important?

Without a meta description, Google chooses a piece of text from the page itself. This can look quite messy and incoherent.

When you incorporate the important keywords of the page into the meta description, it has a positive result on your position in the search engines.
 

Social media

Social media uses the description text when the page is shared. On Facebook, for example, you will see that text on your timeline.
