What is Phishing mail?

A Phishing email is a fake email used by internet criminals to deceive you, usually with the goal of obtaining login credentials. Often, the email looks like a reliable email from a known person or company at first glance, but it is a forgery. 

Internet criminals handling banking via Phishing mail!

There is always a link in a Phishing mail that you can click on, so you are lured to a website that looks "normal" but is actually a copy of a (often recognizable) website. You are asked to enter login credentials, often along with credit card details, bank details, social security number, and other personal data.

With this data, internet criminals can take money from your account and shop at your expense!

How do you recognize Phishing mail?

• Link is incorrect
  There is a link you are asked to click, but if you look closely at the link, you will see it is wrong. https://www.infracom.nl becomes, for example, https://wwwinfracom.nl (the dot after www is omitted).
  Therefore, pay close attention to the URL!
   

• Vague or unclear email address
  The sender often has a vague email address that resembles a known company but is slightly different. So always check the sender's email address carefully, for example web@infraacom.nl instead of web@infracom.nl

• Not personal, but a general salutation
  It is usually not personally addressed to you with your name, but "dear sir/madam"

• Urgency
  It is often an email that causes fear, so you feel inclined to respond quickly. You are missing a special offer or an account expires if you do not respond quickly enough.

• Personal data is always requested
  You have to log in somewhere to complete or check your data, on a fake website that looks very much like the real one! By doing this, you accidentally hand over important personal data to internet criminals.     

• Dangerous attachments
  Phishing emails often contain attachments, and the email asks you to open them. When you do this, harmful programs are installed on your device.
