Prevent Cybercrime, prevent a DDoS attack

26 May 2020

If a company is not well protected against a DDoS attack, it runs the risk of being poorly or even completely digitally inaccessible for hours or days.

DDoS attack = Distributed-Denial-of-Service attack. This is an attack on a server, computer(network) or website with the aim of making it poorly or completely inaccessible to users.

Prevent Cybercrime, prevent a DDoS attack

What is a DDoS attack?

A DDoS attack is also called a Distributed-Denial-of-Service attack. This is an attack on a server, computer(network) or website. So much traffic is directed at it that it can no longer be processed. The result is that it becomes inaccessible to users. A DDoS attack involves traffic from multiple sources.

Hackers often use a Botnet for DDoS attacks, a network of infected computers and devices that have been taken over remotely to be able to send a lot of information at once.

DDoS attack as a means of blackmail

If a company can no longer function due to a DDoS attack, this causes loss of turnover and/or image damage due to negative publicity, making the company appear unreliable. Such a company wants to operate normally again as quickly as possible and will do everything to stop the attack. A hacker can easily blackmail the owner in this way.

How do you prevent the negative consequences of a DDoS attack?

There are several ways to protect yourself as much as possible against the negative consequences of DDoS attacks. A DDoS attack cannot be 100% prevented because it can constantly take a different form, just like with viruses.

As an ICT company, we can do a lot to protect servers, networks and websites against the negative consequences of a DDoS attack. Setting speed limits, permanent monitoring and placing firewalls and routers, for example.
