Do you use Storytelling on your website?
21 February 2021Do you know that? You read a text, but you don’t absorb it, it doesn’t stick. This is because the story doesn’t touch you emotionally.
With storytelling you can appeal to the reader on an emotional level. This ensures that you keep him engaged, so he really wants to read the content and will also remember it. In fact, he will gladly share the story. Storytelling makes the reader forget everything around him and go “on a journey” in your story. A message wrapped in a story sells better.
"If you can’t tell it, you can’t sell it!"
Inspire the reader
You will need to captivate the reader. This will not succeed only by listing products and services. The reader wants to be inspired and see that your organization is distinctive. The reader wants to be amazed, made curious, and remain in control. He wants to feel that he can steer the story.
Good content creates interaction
With the content of your website you can ensure that the visitor is triggered to do something (contact you, request a quote, watch a video, subscribe to the newsletter, etc.). If the content resonates, he will be touched and will start to desire something.
Evoke empathy
Tell a story with a message in which the reader recognizes himself, because only then will you evoke empathy. When reading affects him, he becomes involved. Talk about his needs and desires. This involvement is a good start to building a (customer) relationship.
What is the story that means something to your target audience?
Tell in your story the “why” of your organization. Why does your organization exist? Why do you do what you do? The core values of your organization mean something to the reader, your (future) customers.
When the reader identifies with the main character in the story, it gives him recognition, making him the main character himself. The main character becomes involved in a certain problem. The reader is triggered to read further, he wants to know the solution, the solution you can offer him.
How do you start with Storytelling?
First consider what kind of feeling you want to evoke in the reader. Think of sadness, indignation, disgust, compassion, joy, tenderness, enthusiasm, inspiration, safety.
Consider what you want to achieve with the story
What do you ultimately want to achieve with the reader? Do you want to make him think? Do you want him to take action? And what does your reader want to achieve? What keeps him awake? What important choice must he make? What obstacles does he encounter? Once you have determined that, you can align all stories accordingly.
I am curious about your story!
