Colors have meanings and can impact visitors of a website. Different color combinations lead to different (emotional and mental) reactions.

By choosing the right colors for your website you create the right associations for visitors and can influence the actions they will take. 

 

Associations with colors
 

Blue

Blue stands for businesslike, reliable, loyal, sincere and effective. Blue stimulates clear thinking and promotes concentration. Blue also stands for logical, communicative and cool.
 

Yellow

Yellow stands for optimism, energy, sun, fun, happiness and youthfulness. Yellow grabs attention and stimulates thinking. Yellow also stands for self-confidence, creativity and friendliness. Too much yellow achieves the opposite, namely anxiety and worry.
 

Red

Red increases the visitor's heart rate, time seems to go faster and therefore he wants to take action quickly. Red stands for urgency, energy, courage, strength, excitement and warmth.
 

Pink

Pink is seen as a feminine color and stands for love, warmth and peace. Pink has an innocent and playful look. Pink is a calming color that does not directly encourage action.
 

Green

If you want to convey freshness or renewal or health and balance, use a lot of green. Green is also associated with environmental friendliness, balance and peace. Green is a positive, relaxing color.
 

White

White stands for hygiene, clarity and simplicity. White creates more space. White can make a website look fresh and neat.
 

Gray

Gray is a neutral color and has the least effect. Gray can dampen another color. Too much gray can come across as depressing.
 

Black

The powerful color black stands for wisdom and efficiency. Black is associated with security and attractiveness. Black gives a feeling of energy, but also of seriousness.

 

Buttons and striking links

A button is a call to action, it must stand out, so use striking colors. Of course this depends on the color combination and contrast. The more contrast, the more striking.
