What is ransomware?
Ransomware is also called hostage software, a virus that encrypts data.
With ransomware, systems (servers, computers, phones) are hacked, making the system and data inaccessible. The company (the victim) must pay ransom to regain access to the business data. There is no guarantee that after paying the money the blockages will be lifted.
Data encrypted by ransomware attack
A ransomware attack can ensure that (quote) requests, registrations, support questions, proposals and other data no longer reach a company. An attack can also cause internal systems to stop working and when working from different (home office) locations. When during the attack all personal data is also stolen, this can cause serious damage to a company. It can take months to get all the data back, if at all.

It is very difficult to protect yourself against ransomware, cybercriminals are getting smarter. You can do a number of things to prevent infections:
Backups
Ensure continuous backups! If a blockage occurs, not all data is lost. Make sure the backups are protected against ransomware, because if your backups are encrypted there is no restore possible! Antivirus
Our antivirus is also good at stopping encryption, especially because the ‘definitions’ come from a live online database and are not stored locally. This way new viruses and attacks are recognized much faster to be stopped.
