Do You Work in the Cloud?

24 January 2023

As ICT professionals, we lead the way in technology. Sometimes we forget that not everyone does. For us, working in the Cloud is obvious—but do you actually know why?

When working in the Cloud, it’s essential that all data and information is securely transmitted to and from the Cloud.

Do You Work in the Cloud?

What Does Working in the Cloud Mean?

You can work on your computer in two ways: on-premise or in the Cloud. On-premise means employees use software installed on computers and servers physically located in the company building. Often, both hardware and software licenses are owned by the organization.

If there’s no reliable internet connection, on-premise may be preferred—you’re less dependent on the internet.

Cloud-based work gives employees access to a desktop in the Cloud. The software and files are stored on a Cloud server outside the office, in a data center. One advantage is that work can be done from multiple locations and devices. Employees can work from anywhere in the world using any device with internet access.

Why Work in the Cloud?

  • Security – Your ICT partner ensures system availability, backups, software updates, and modern hardware, reducing the risk of data breaches and cybercrime.
  • Cost – Depending on the Cloud solution, you may easily scale up or down with staffing changes and pay per use.
  • Location Independence – As mentioned, data can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection. Files can also be made available offline so you can work even without internet.
