Last month, a serious vulnerability was discovered in Outlook—the email client most of us use. A cybercriminal can gain access to various Microsoft services using a specially crafted email and authenticate as another user (which could be you), receiving login credentials. No interaction is needed, unlike with phishing emails.

Microsoft has released a patch to fix this issue. A patch (literally meaning “band-aid”) is a type of software update designed to close the vulnerability. Typically, it doesn’t change the software’s functionality.
