Web 1.0 – Consuming Information

The first generation of websites were mainly static pages for reading information. The creators of these simple websites, often just one page, aimed to share as much as possible with the reader—it was one-way communication. Everything had to fit on one screen without scrolling, and loading times had to be minimal due to slow internet connections.

Web 2.0 – Creating, Editing, and Sharing Content

In addition to reading, websites were built for interaction—forums, comments on news, and content creation (YouTube, Twitter). With broadband internet, users could stay online longer, enabling more interaction.

Centralized Platforms Emerge

Social networks enabled content creation, sharing, and liking. Communication became easier, and websites and platforms became dynamic.

Facebook and Google built business models around data collection, taking control away from users through centralized platforms.

Web 3.0

Users Control Their Own Content

A power shift is underway—from big tech companies to individual users who now control their content.

With Web 3.0, the third generation of the internet, machines and computers increasingly understand the content and context of websites and applications. This enables personalized and relevant search results, recommendations, and interactions.
 

• Machines Behave Like Humans
  Internet applications are better aligned with each other and the user, processing information in more human-like ways. Technologies like blockchain, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), and Machine Learning (ML) make this possible.
   
• Decentralized
  Where governance and applications once relied on centralized databases, Web 3.0 applications are decentralized—accessible to everyone without third-party approval. Blockchain enables distributed data and connections, making decentralized apps and services possible.
   
• Everyone Can Own Part of a Platform
  As a participant in a virtual environment, you can own part of its value through tokens and sell them. Currently, platforms profit from their users.
