Why is this so dangerous?

In early January, Microsoft fixed 49 vulnerabilities and released an update for outdated Windows Server versions. Although Microsoft no longer officially supports this software, the security flaw was so severe that they issued a patch. The vulnerability is so concerning that Microsoft expects it to be further exploited in the future.

The flaw allows cybercriminals to spoof the server and trick networks by impersonating a “trusted” identity. This enables them to steal data unnoticed, install malware, crash the server, intercept communications, and gain access to sensitive information. This opens the door to potential financial damage, such as theft of organizational funds.

These updates offer no guarantees!

Microsoft does not support outdated Windows versions, but in some cases—especially with critical vulnerabilities—they still release updates. However, installing these updates is at your own risk. If something goes wrong during the update process, you are responsible for resolving any issues.

Switch to a supported version of Windows

If you’re still using an old server, you’re at great risk! Our advice is to ensure you’re running a Windows Server version currently supported by Microsoft, which is from Windows Server 2016 onward.
