Are you ready for Google Consent Mode V2?

25 June 2024

Do you collect data from your website visitors? You are required to respect their cookie preferences. Without consent, you may not collect all data. If Consent Mode is not properly configured, it will affect your Analytics data and Google Ads campaigns.

Are you ready for Google Consent Mode V2?

What is Google Consent Mode v2?

This is Google’s consent mode, which ensures that the website only places cookies and collects data when a visitor has given permission. Parameters are sent to Google, which adjusts scripts like Google Ads based on the visitor’s preferences.

Are you required to implement Google Consent Mode?

No, not mandatory, but starting March 2024, Google will assume by default that the visitor has not given consent if Consent Mode is not applied, which can affect your Google ads and Analytics data.

Google recommends choosing a Consent Marketing Platform (CMP) and configuring it based on the unique visitor’s consent.

What is a Consent Marketing Platform?

A CMP is a service that shows website visitors which of their data is being processed and allows them to give consent. Google Analytics collects data based on this consent. With Google’s tag manager, you can then specify how a Google tag should behave.

It’s not mandatory to use a CMP; a custom cookie banner can often be configured to comply with Google Consent V2.

What if you don’t configure Consent Mode?

It may affect your online marketing. Less information may be available for analysis and targeting, making Analytics data less accurate and ads less effective.
