No more SEO, but what then?

10 December 2024

In recent years, SEO specialists have ensured that websites achieved high positions in Google through SEO content (optimized texts on web pages aimed at the ideal keywords).

But with the arrival of AI and recent core updates from Google, this will no longer work in the future.

No more SEO, but what then?

What is happening at Google?

Lately there have been many core updates at Google, a lot is happening, but what exactly is going on and does it affect the findability of websites? At the moment not all important updates are being implemented in Europe due to our privacy legislation, but what if that happens? Are we then ready for the new SEO?

Can SMEs still stand out online?

Google is our biggest competitor and provides the largest traffic on the internet. It is not only websites we compete with, but YouTube videos, shorts, song lyrics, Google Maps, Google Images and Google Shopping, and what about LinkedIn, Temu, Amazon and other platforms. All these big tech giants are not interested in referring visitors to your organization's website. No, they prefer to keep these visitors themselves, because those are their cash cows!

Your SME website will soon no longer be shown

When you search in Google, you often already find the answer to your question without having viewed a website. Google retrieves the information from the web, perhaps even from your website. Visitors no longer need to click further, because they already know the answer and no longer come to your organization's website.

Perfect content is the new SEO?

Google has a dominant position. If you want to appear in the results, you will need to have perfect content, but what is perfect? Google prefers that the content on the internet is only Helpful content. Mediocre content by writing texts with the right keywords is no longer original enough.

What is helpful content?

Helpful content is certainly not blogs created by AI, because AI retrieves the information from the internet. Create new informative content, content that the visitor can really use.

The web is so large that the web crawlers can no longer quickly search everything. The new way for Google's machines is to look at the value of the content of a page. With Google's Helpful Content Update, it is checked whether value is being added to the internet.

How do you create helpful content?

Helpful content is relevant specialist content that the visitor is really waiting for. Specialist answers to questions, answers to problems, alternative products that you as a specialist recommend, solutions for frustrations that you as an expert offer, solutions to take away fear from your target group, but also solutions to achieve goals together with the visitor.

Make sure you create value and don't just think about texts, also create video content, podcasts, and use social media!

EEAT

With the EEAT guideline, Google will assess the quality of the content. Google analyzes how visitors respond to content. Do they read on? Do they fill in forms? Do they ask questions? Do they like and share the content?

EEAT: Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness. Provide unique user experiences, write cases and give examples. Let a specialist explain something, ensure online feedback. Make sure the content is reliable. Think carefully about why you are creating the content and be original!
