Large-scale Windows 11 migration and Intune adoption for Almere College
How do you migrate 1200 laptops to Windows 11, spread across multiple school locations, without disrupting education? For Almere College, that was a major challenge. Together, we ensured a smooth migration with clear communication, smart planning and a workplace environment that is now, thanks to Intune, ready for easier management and improved security.
The challenge
Almere College wanted to transition to Windows 11 across multiple locations without disrupting education. This was not about data migration, but about controlled device upgrades and moving management to Microsoft Intune. Computer policies and application installations are no longer handled by internal servers, but centrally from the cloud. This makes the environment safer, easier to manage and allows hardware to be phased out step by step.
Our approach
After mapping the needs and requirements of Almere College’s internal system administrators, we set up the new workplace environment within Microsoft. The existing computer policies and application installations, previously managed via internal servers, were translated to Intune. This allowed the transition to Windows 11 to be carried out in a controlled manner, giving the IT department an environment that is efficient to manage. We tested the full process on several laptops at our office to validate technical choices and user settings.
For execution, we worked closely with Almere College’s internal IT staff (Alex and Kanar). Together, we created a per‑location schedule, organised intake and handover moments and ensured that employees could continue working with a temporary loan laptop during the migration.
During these contact moments, Alex and Kanar checked with each employee whether the temporary and newly configured laptop met their needs. Location leaders also received clear communication with instructions so everyone knew what would happen and when.
The result
With this approach, Almere College received a modern and secure workplace environment with Windows 11 — without needing to replace all laptops. Thanks to technical preparation, smart logistics and clear communication, the migration went smoothly across all locations. Education continued uninterrupted, employees stayed productive and Almere College now has an environment that works well and is easier and more secure to manage.
